J. R. writes, "there were over 20 units for sale in the building and the prospects for selling the condo looked pretty dim. The building was over 40 years old and our unit had a kitchen that was remodeled last in the '80s and had most of its original appliances.

First, we cleaned out all the cabinets and gave them a good cleaning. Then, we replaced all the door handles with more substantial stainless steel handles to match the kitchen sink and faucet. We selected new appliances and this photo was taken the day that the appliance people showed up to install the new appliances.

Next, we removed the wallpaper and painted the room a warm taupy sand to coordinate with the floor and cabintry.

There wasn't much we could do with the ceiling, so we tried to bring the viewers' eyes to the nice flooring and new appliances."

The stainless steel appliances make the room appear up-to-date. J.R. tells us that they were on special clearance because the oven was dented on the side (not affecting its function, just wouldn't work for someone who had the sides exposed) and the dishwasher was a floor sample.

We like the rug that J. R. chose because it picks up on the strength of the black accents on the appliances and adds visual weight to the floor.
