Staging Ideas from Digital Media and TV
Twenty years ago, we didn't have the digital media or TV shows that we have now in the home staging genre. The granddaddy of them all, "This Old House" is just 30 years old and from that show, all the others followed, albeit quite a while later.
The advent of HGTV and Discovery Home, not to mention Canadian television, have allowed 24/7 streaming of programming into our homes. Home staging, which was a little-known concept just 15 years ago, has become a key marketing tool thanks to shows such as
Designed to Sell
and
Sell This House.
There are scores of other shows that contribute to the staging body of knowledge. Watching these shows will help you pick up on staging strategies and tips even if the home isn't about staging. Knowledge about building materials, furniture placement, the use of color in design and even home repair are indispensable when it comes to staging.
The show "Hidden Potential" is a case in point. This show features potential homeowners who tour homes for sale. A digital artist then recreates the interior of the homes on a computer screen complete with furnishings and remodeling, to show what the home could look like. This show has sparked a new industry
